Landcare Project Manager
Council together with the Woodanilling Shire actively support the Wagin / Woodanilling Landcare Zone. This is a community-driven organisation within the Blackwood Catchment which in turn is a part of the South West Catchments Council region. Currently , with external funding assistance two staff are employed to address local environmental issues including land and water management, biodiversity, farm planning, protecting town infrastructure, weed and waste management and education. The Centre is located in Tudhoe Street Wagin and can be contacted on 9861 2222 or mobile 0428 231 506.
Farmers are urged to participate in landcare activities and are advised that the Wagin/Woodanilling Landcare Zone has had great success in recent years in attracting funding for various programs.
Landcare Co-ordinator
Since 1998, the Shires of Wagin and Woodanilling have jointly employed a Community Landcare Co-ordinator, with support from Natural Heritage Trust funding. Danielle Perrie and Crystal McIvor are available to assist with the improvement of agricultural sustainability and the protection of community resources
Land in the Shire of Wagin makes up part of Zones 4 & 5 of the Blackwood Catchment, and receives significant support from NHT via the Blackwood Basin Group. Zone-relevant funding according to community priorities, a High Value Public Assets funding program, Weed management support, on-ground technical advice, and digital mapping & planning equipment are examples of the services extended to the community via the Community Landcare Coordinator.
Relevant documents produced to address land management issues in the Shire include Wagin Townsite Groundwater Study, Salinity Management Strategy, Queerfellows Creek Focus Catchment Plan, as well as a number of hydro-geological maps.
Currently the Wagin Shire and community are involved in the Rural Towns Program to address townsite salinity issues, the development of a Land & Water Management Strategy, and the development of a Weeds Strategy, as well as on-ground works to improve agricultural productivity through land conservation such as water harvesting.

LCDC Tree Planter
The Wagin LCDC in conjunction with the Shire has a towed tree planting machine and a mounding implement available for hire. Hand held tree planters are also available. Contact Wagin / Woodanilling Landcare Zone on 9861 2222 for bookings.
Friends of Wagin Lakes
The group's activities focus on enhancing cultural, social environmental and economic awareness and values of the area. FoWL members get involved in whatever capacity they are interested in contributing to the group. Recent activities include weed and pest control, revegetation, bird and widelife surveys and hydrological surveying. Annual membership is $10 for individuals and $50 for corporate groups and can be paid at the Wagin /Woodanuilling Landcare Centre on Tudhoe Street Wagin.
