Rate assessments are payable in full within 35 days of the date of issue. They are calculated in two different ways.
- Gross Rental Value is charged on residential type zonings. Values are set by the Valuer General on minimum yearly rental for that house, based on the floor plan.
- Unimproved Value. This value is established for rural and special rural zonings. The value is determined on the worth of the unimproved land regardless of dwellings on the property. Unimproved values are reassessed annually by the Valuer General.
Options To Pay Your Rates
Several options are now provided to ratepayers to pay their rates.
If you pay in full by the due date you will receive a 5% discount as in previous years.
You may however choose to pay by either 2 or 4 instalments. The instalment option will come at a charge of 5.5% per annum interest plus a $5 administration fee for each additional instalment.
The options available and the cost of each option will be shown on your first rate notice. Reminder notices for those paying by instalments will be sent out before the instalment due date.
All overdue rates will be charged interest at 11% per annum.
Special provision has been made for pensioners who pay by instalments. Pensioners are exempt from the interest conditions and may pay their rates any time prior to the 30th June.
