Cr Phillip Blight elected for 9th time as Shire President at Special Council Meeting following Local Government Election


Cr Phillip Blight was elected President of the Shire of Wagin for the 9th time at a Special Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.


Cr Blight’s election as Shire President was preceded by a ceremony where newly elected Councillors took their oath of office in the presence of Mr James Wallis JP.


Councillors Greg Ball, Bryan Kilpatrick, Ann O’Brien and Jason Reed join Councillors Phillip Blight, Sheryl Chilcott and Geoff West.


At the Special Council Meeting Cr Bryan Kilpatrick was elected as Deputy President. Cr Kilpatrick continues this role which he held following the 2023 election.


The meeting also provided the opportunity to recognise the contribution of outgoing Councillor, Wade Longmuir who served on Council from 2019.

“Serving on Council is an honour and commitment. I would like to thank our newly elected Councillors for making that commitment to our community and thank Wade Longmuir for his contribution to the Wagin Shire Council.


Wade is a leader in Wagin both in his successful business which assists farmers across the region and in his involvement in football and cricket at especially at a youth level.

Following the Special Council Meeting, the next Ordinary Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
