Shire of Wagin and St Luke’s Partnership Delivers Bulk Billing GP Services to the Wagin and surrounds

The Shire of Wagin welcomes the announcement that St Luke’s Family Practice has been approved as a Medicare Bulk Billing Practice.

This change means that eligible Medicare card holders will no longer face out-of-pocket costs for standard consultations. Instead, St Luke’s will bill Medicare directly, removing the need for patients to pay upfront or claim rebates later.

Dr Nickie du Preez, Practice Principal of St Luke’s, said:

“Transitioning to become a Medicare Bulk Billing Practice is part of our commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all members of our community. We recognise that cost can be a barrier to seeking timely medical care, and this change allows patients to prioritise their health without financial concern. Ultimately, it’s about strengthening community wellbeing and supporting a healthier future for everyone we serve.”

In March 2025, the Shire of Wagin extended its contract with St Luke’s through to 2029, guaranteeing continued access to General Practitioner services across the Wagin area.

Shire President Cr Phillip Blight congratulated St Lukes:

“Affordable access to quality healthcare is vital for a regional community. The Shire of Wagin is proud to support St Luke’s Family Practice in delivering bulk billed services, ensuring that cost is no longer a barrier to seeing a GP.”

“The Shire’s partnership with St Luke’s is now entering its third year, and we are pleased to also hear that an additional Doctor will be commencing at the Wagin Practice in 2026 to meet demand from Wagin and surrounds.”
