Shire of Wagin budget delivers with 3.5% increase in rates for majority of properties
At the 28 July 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council adopted the Shire of Wagin 2026-27 Annual Budget.
The $14.4 million budget includes $3.85 million of capital works including improvements to roads, footpaths and recreational facilities. The budget also addresses the critical shortage in the Shire’s housing stock through the construction of two new homes which will enable the Shire to be competitive in attracting and retaining key positions in the years to come.
Rates on non-minimum rated properties (almost 80% of properties) will increase by 3.5%. This is despite significant increases in the cost of fuel and associated products used by the Shire especially in road construction and maintenance.
Headline investments include:
• Seal widening on Bockaring; Ballagin; Norring; Stewart and Behn Ord Roads
• Reseals of Padbury Lane and Bullock Hills and Jaloran Roads
• Gravel sheeting on Lime Lake West and Robinson Roads
• New footpaths on Ballagin; Theta and Trenton Streets
• An elevated work platform to enable critical building maintenance
• Replacement street sweeper; side tipper and other Shire vehicles
• New gym equipment
• CCTV upgrades
• Replacement of essential pool infrastructure
Rate payments made in full by 5 October 2026 receive a 5% discount.
