The Wagin Bowling Club is set to shine brighter thanks to a $70,000 lighting upgrade for its ‘A’ green, enhancing opportunities for twilight and night-time competition play.
Funding for the project was split between the WA Government, Shire of Wagin and the Wagin Bowls Club.
Wagin Bowls Club’s investment was $20,000 with the remaining $35,000 provided by the Shire of Wagin through the Recreation Development Reserve.
The WA Government’s investment of $15,000 through the Club Night Lights Program was critical in enhancing the project beyond the Club’s initial vision.
The partnership with the State Government through the Club Nights Lights Program led to a doubling of the lighting quality initially planned.
The new lighting system delivers 200 lux illumination, meeting Bowls WA standards for competition play. This upgrade will allow the Club’s popular summer twilight bowls to continue beyond sunset and opens the door to future night competitions.
“This is a fantastic outcome for our community that enables bowls to be enjoyed during the cooler evening hours of summer,” said Shire President Cr Phillip Blight.
“It’s a great example of a local sporting group investing in its own future by working with the Shire and the WA Government.”
The Wagin Bowling Club continues to be a vibrant hub for sport and social connection, and this lighting upgrade ensures its facilities remain top-tier for years to come.
