Water tanker to fuel volunteer bush fire capability
A repurposed fuel tanker trailer will boost volunteer bush fire capability in the Shire of Wagin in time for the 2025-26 fire season.
The 35,000 litre capacity trailer will aid bush fire brigades by providing a mobile water source.
The tanker was made possible through a grant of $40,000 from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation’s Community Water Supplies Partnership. The remaining $37,000 funding provided by the Shire of Wagin.
The water transfer system design and construction was the result of efforts of Wagin local firefighter Tony Dalglish and has been proudly adorned with a mural from local artists Melanie and Anita.
Sourcing a suitable fuel tanker trailer was a challenge before a chance encounter with a stallholder at the 2023 Woolorama.
“It is difficult to fight a fire without water and getting water to the fireground can be a challenge.” Shire President Cr Phil Blight said.
“The tanker is not only a vital asset and boost to our firefighting capacity, it is a proud statement of the commitment of our bush fire brigades protecting our community and a reminder of the importance of being bush fire ready.”
